FIFA to hibernate in cave and play pong

On March 8, 2010, in News, by admin

FIFA officials have vowed to build a new HQ out of matchsticks and the skin of mountain bears whilst playing pong on their Magnavox Odyssey computers a spokesmen has confirmed. A vote by the International FA board declared that nothing should ever change, ever, and that re runs of Friends should keep being played for as long as the sun burns.

Sepp Blatter has also promised to bring back the bowl cut whilst guaranteeing a re-release of the Yo Yo saying, ‘oh look at the way they go up and down. That’s magic that is!’

The meeting in Zurich on Saturday also concluded that the evolution theory ‘needed further investigation’ and that the World was definitely flat. Goal line technology was dismissed as ‘witch craft’ whilst the use of video referring at all was cited as ‘impossible’ due to the fact that cavemen, for years, have enjoyed debating who had actually killed dinner first down their local rock face.

I love the idea. I'm American and I feel that, while technology has it's place, American football has lost it's appeal due to too much technology. I like the idea of a second referee or even a couple extra linesmen to watch the penalty areas and goal lines. The game needs to be kept "human" and not get mired down with video this and video that. If you want a camera and a computer to make all the decisions then you might as well just stay at home and play FIFA 2010 on your PS3. Human referees will make mistakes and that's just part of the game. Will we put an asterisk next to Maradona's "Hand of God" goal because the referee didn't see it and the camera did? Not to mention all the stoppages in play. There goes the flow of the game and now it's just like American football which has become boring to watch. As players get stronger and faster, the game moves faster, so we could introduce some modern aspects, but let's just be very careful doing that.

Completely agree, don't want to stop the flow of the game, that's what makes football stand out above the rest. But to ignore all technology seems a bit much. Perhaps a captain starting a game with 2 appeals which can be referred to camera. If he gets it right, like tennis, he keeps his appeals. If not he loses them
